I feel it. Do you? The weight, the heaviness, the cumulative load of loss from walking through this strange, surreal, sci-fi-movie-gone-bad year of the pandemic.

At times, I want to join the weary world as it groans, “will this ever end?”

And that feeling right there, the “how long will this go on” and “can I hang on until then” reminds me of another loooooong season, 2000 years ago when an oppressed and forgotten people had all but lost their hope under the weight of the wait for a promised rescue that never seemed to come.

But then, it started. Small and soft. A distant star shining its light into that bleak, black night. An angelic choir daring the despair with a song of life and hope. A baby’s cry wafting on the wind.

And the rumor caught fire and spread. It’s true. He was finally here. The Savior of all mankind had been born.

Throughout the land, hurting hearts stirred with an almost foreign feeling, something called “hope.” What a beautiful breath of air. Hope that there was a way out. A way up. A way through this messy thing we call life.

And we get it, don’t we?

Because this year, perhaps more than any other year in which I’ve ever lived (and I’ve lived A LOT of years ☺), we need it. We need Him. We need to be reminded that we are not alone.

So, like a naive child lighting a candle in the hurricane-force winds of discouragement and doubt, this year, as Christ-centered entrepreneurs, let’s do a brave thing. Let’s lift our flickering flames in the dark night and spread the light of hope to those God has called us to serve.

Touch-by-touch, person-by-person, this holiday season, let’s spread contagious hope and build our businesses by bravely blessing others.

3 Reasons to Build Your Business by Blessing Others

  1. The people you serve need it! – Don’t be fooled by looking at others’ picture-perfect Facebook feeds. Depression is up, the isolation is grueling, and hopelessness abounds. But it doesn’t take much to turn that around.

One human-to-human connection. An encouraging word. A listening ear. A caring smile – really, truly, can make a massive difference.

  1. The best business growth comes from meaningful relationships. – We know this is true, yet deep inside we also know that connecting with people one-to-one feels soooooo slow. Inefficient. Non-productive.Except…. it works. It really, really works. Remember, investing in people and building meaningful relationships is like the race between the tortoise and the hare. Slow and steady will beat shallow and speedy every time.
  1. God gives to givers. – The world encourages us to tell, to sell, to seize the day and make it go our way.God says, “One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want. Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.” (Proverbs 11:24-25 ESV)

This year, let’s do it God’s way.
