How to Add a YouTube Video To Your Website

add-a-video-to-your-websiteIf you have ever wondered how to add a YouTube video to your website, this is the post to read! Video, as you may have heard, is a great tool for drawing people to your site and helping them get to know, like and trust you.

Of course, you don’t have to put just your own videos on your website. You can use videos that others have put up on YouTube, too. The process of making them show up on your website is called “embedding,” and it is pretty easy to do.

For complete step by step instructions with screen shots, you can download the PDF at the end of the blog post.

But first, let’s just talk about why using YouTube is a great idea for getting you some traffic. Did you know that Google owns YouTube? And Google likes what it owns 🙂

When you create your own video and add it to YouTube, you have the opportunity to “optimize” it. You’ll want to think about the person who will ultimately be watching your video, the one that you can help… your potential client. So think: what is that person searching Google for?

Once you figure that out, then you can title your video and add some information about it – using as keywords what that potential client would be searching for. Chances are pretty good that they aren’t going to be searching for “My First Video.” Nor are they probably searching for just your name.

They might, however, be searching for how to handle temper tantrums in adults. So maybe a good title would be “Dealing with Temper Tantrums In Adults.” And in fact, I just searched Google for temper tantrums in adults and found two YouTube videos on the first page.

Once you have identified your keyword, put it in the title, in the description, and anywhere else you can find to put it. It is likely that Google will pick it up and help drive traffic to you. You can help get that traffic to your website by putting a link to your website right at the top of the description.

So once you have your video up on YouTube (or you have found a video that you want to put on your site), just how to do you do it? Easy peasy! YouTube provides you with an “embed code” that you can add to your page or post. Click the link below to get complete instructions.

The next question that comes to mind is, “How do I put that video in my newsletter?” The short answer is, “You can’t,” but that’s not very satisfying. What you CAN do, however, is take a screen shot of the video and add that image to your newsletter. Link the image back to the page or post where the video is on your site, and also put a link in the descriptive content that you have written.

Now that you can add videos to your site, I trust you will get busy and do that!
