I’ll never forget the day when I heard term “Life Coach” for the first time.
It was an ordinary Thursday, and I had just started making the bed when the phone rang. It was my daughter, Bethany, and she wanted to kick around some potential career options for herself after she finished school.
I LOVE these kinds of conversations. So, grinning from ear to ear, I absentmindedly straightened sheets and arranged pillows as we discussed and discarded various tantalizing options.
As a lull came in the conversation, Bethany threw in one last choice by saying, “or I could become a life coach.”
It was a mic drop moment.
To this day, I don’t remember what she said after that, how the conversation ended, or whether the bed ever got made. My world had just come to a grinding halt.
I had no idea what a “life coach” was, but my imagination was quick to fill in all the empty spaces.
A coach – what if everyone in the world had a coach? Someone who came alongside them to support and encourage them? Someone who helped them meet their goals? What if everyone had a coach who was solely focused on their success? And what if this coach wasn’t just there for a sport, or a specific project, but what if they were there to help them live a better life for their whole entire life?
Before I knew it, Bethany’s possible career choice (one she decided not to pursue) became mine.
I found a training school. Enrolled. Fell in love with coaching. Started an LLC. Opened my doors to clients. And…
Strangely, the whole world wasn’t as captivated with coaching as I was, and even stranger to me, was the realization that starting a business did nothing to bring clients to my door.
I took a deep breath, dove into the deep end of marketing, and immersed myself in a sea of information that was…
→ salesy and at times,
→ downright slimy.
Can you relate?
A Better Way
I knew there had to be a better way.
Being a persevering person (my husband would say stubborn 😀), I was determined to find it. And that is how this therapist became a life coach and then became a Certified Business Coach who helps other coaches build successful businesses (but of course, that’s a longer story for another day.)
Here’s what I wanted to share. Marketing your business really can simpler, easier, and something you actually enjoy.
Don’t misunderstand. It’s still a roll-up-your-sleeves, commit-to-it-for-the-long-haul endeavor. But this journey can also be…
🙌 and full of fun.
