Yesterday when I needed a ride to airport, God brought me Larry.

Larry is a new-ish entrepreneur. Along with his part-time Uber gig, he is the proud owner of an independent moving company. A business he started just 3 years ago.

Settling in for the ride, I asked him how it was going.

With a deep sigh, he confessed, things were “okay.”

And with that one word, I couldn’t help myself.

I slipped on my invisible Business Coach hat and began coaching. After all, what better way to pass the time in Atlanta traffic than coaching an eager entrepreneur?

I’m not joking when I say that 20-minutes later Larry’s business prospects had moved from dull and dim to shiny and bright.

My very conservative guess is that his business will be 25% bigger and even more importantly, 25% more profitable by this time next year.

What made the difference?

A pair of outside eyes.

The perspective of someone trained to spot previously hidden roadblocks and generate unimagined possibilities.

Someone to ask questions that evoke excitement, creativity, and the motivation to get it done.

I’m beyond thrilled for Larry, and at the same time saddened when I consider how easily it could have gone the other way.

What If…

What if Larry hadn’t driven Uber that day? What if his passenger wasn’t a trained, certified, experienced business coach? What if none of those ideas were generated and none of those possibilities were born?

2019 would have been a very sad year for Larry. In fact, it may have even been the death of his entrepreneurial dreams.
