How to Reach Your Goals and Gain Remarkable Influence

by | 20 comments

You are one-of-a-kind, and God has designed you for remarkable influence.

Unfortunately, we can’t just place an order for a high impact life on Amazon.com and have it show up at our houses next week.

To influence others as a coach, you’ll need ongoing inspiration, just the right information and one more thing…

Successful implementation.

Implementation is the missing link that closes the deadly gap between dreaming and doing.

To-Do

It all begins with a goal. And goals are easy to set.

A simple glance at our weekly ‘to-do’ list usually reveals more goals than there are hours in the day. They may look like this…

  • To uncover the buried treadmill from under the pile of laundry
  • To return 10 emails before the end of the day
  • To post on Facebook 3 times this week

These are essential goals, but completely uninspiring. So frankly, they often go unmet.

To Accomplish

But we also have dreams that are bigger than our ‘to-do’ list. We have longer-term goals for things we want ‘to accomplish.’

These are not really different goals than the daily ‘to-dos,’ they are just ramped up a bit.

  • I will lose that last 10 lbs
  • I will empty my email inbox
  • I will get 3 new clients by the end of the month

These are things we want, and we can, accomplish. But once we’ve accomplished these goals, our energy subsides and our minds wander.

  • When I finally lose that last 10 pounds, I celebrate – with a whole pan of brownies – and quickly find them once again.
  • Even as I’m patting myself on the back for hitting ‘send’ on the last email, five new ones pop in.
  • I sign-up 3 new clients, but 4 current clients are done

Surprisingly, the problem wasn’t been that these ‘ to accomplish’ goals were too big, but too small. They didn’t sustain our interest, continue to fire our imagination

Small goals are easily overlooked.

To Become

Motivation comes from bold dreams that captivate our hearts.

It’s time to move past what we want ‘to-do’ and ‘to-accomplish’ to what focus on who we want ‘to-become.’

  • I am woman of integrity
  • I’m unselfish and put others needs ahead of my own
  • I will be an encourager everywhere I go.

These ‘to-become’ goals always compel us. They are big enough so we can celebrate successes along the way and yet ever yearn and strive to reach higher.

And the wonderful result of becoming all that we can be is that it carries all our smaller goals in its wake.

To Inspire

But there is one more level of dreaming. The boldest level of all. Dreams that move beyond our small circle to impact the world at large.

These stirring visions compel us to give our all.

  • I dream of empowering other heart attack victims to become healthy and fit.
  • I’ll begin a reading program for the underprivileged children in my community.
  • I will create a community of Christians that exists to empower and encourage one another as they partner with God to change the world.

These inspiring dreams become our heartbeat.

They terrify yet motivate us. Worry yet challenge us. They charge our imaginations and fill our waking hours with pondering, dreaming, scheming, sacrificing and living life full out!

You and I were created to live these kinds of remarkable, influential lives.

Commit to Remarkable

Will you commit to being remarkable?

My prayer is that you will.

It’s Your Turn

What one step will you take today to move closer to your dream?

Today I will schedule a coaching session with Kim to “tease out” the description of my target market from the market research I’ve done thanks to participating in Marketing Momentum. I’ve chased this information for three years and finally it’s in my possession! Thank you, God! Thank you, Kim, for clarity!

  2. Wesley Wiley

Today I will write two posts for my coaching blog about how to discover and realign your life to be in sync with your values.

  3. Marcia

I have already signed up and look forward to the free seminar this week as a jump start to the momentum program. Thank you Lim for being so available and motivating.

Sorry Kim, just miss typed your name– caffeine has not kicked in yet.

Today I will write a letter reaching out and reconnecting with my subscribers, after several months of “radio silence”. I will also begin writing a series of blog posts on courage and resilience of self leadership to begin sending out to in my newsletter in the coming weeks in preparation for a launch of my ” Courageously Led” program.

“They terrify yet motivate us. Worry yet challenge us. They charge our imaginations and fill our waking hours with pondering, dreaming, scheming, sacrificing and living life full out!” My thoughts exactly! I’m dreaming big Miss Kim and ecstatic that I have your support!

  11. Renee

I’m go to ask for a reference, today.

    Strongly recommend Marketing Momentum Program!

  12. Bev

Are you targeting a clear niche that has full-fee clients? I am not doing that and wonder how. I look forward to learning.

Today I will begin writing the book God has placed in my heart and mind that, up until now, has been “written” on notes scattered here and there, and inspire other parents of children with special needs to create and enjoy the light in the middle of the tunnel rather than waiting for the end of the tunnel. The size of this dream is overwhelming to me, but I know that it is definitely from God, and I want to be obedient to Him while encouraging others like myself.

This year I have begun to rewrite my dreams to be more inspiring and less boring and to look at the Decade of Dreams in front of me, realizing that this is a process and won’t happen overnight.

Great stretch from being to inspiring. Like that!

Finished an article to contribute to a free book we will offer and hope it will inspire and encourage

I loved this post. Loved it! Going to have to quote you “Motivation comes from bold dreams that captivate our hearts.” YES!!!!

  16. Cheryl

I will connect with a former client to ask for referrals! Great post!!

Today I will send out reminders of my teleclass and start working on organizing my notes. This is really a stretch for me. There is no way I could speak in public, but maybe If I can’t see the people I can do it. People are sick and miserable and need my help to take control of their health, and I know God has called me to do this work. I am extremely shy and pray everyday for courage to put myself out there to serve.

After attending a networking event, I holed myself up at a new Starbucks location ( I’m in love- the entire location is decorated in rich wood grain , shelves of antique books and local photographs.) to reflect, strategize and write. I spent most of my time during the networking event chatting with new and old contacts. I asked new prospects ” what are they needing most?” And old contacts “what do they need to hear more of from me” I spent my time in the coffee shop working on ways I can articulate the messages people are longing to have acknowledged and how I can ease those longings.

You said:I will create a community of Christians that exists to empower and encourage one another as they partner with God to change the world.

I will invite two more women to join the Women-2-Women group that morphed out of a 15-week book study. LOVE that group! Great bonding and encouraging each other!!

My God’s grace, my new goal is to get webinars up and running. I’d like to do them at least twice a month. Pray for me as I follow His lead. Blessings, Amy
