Is your marketing stalled? The Law of Inertia tells us that an object in motion continues in motion with the same speed and in the same direction until acted upon by an external force. That means that if an object is orbiting the earth, it will continue to orbit the earth until some force causes it to change.

Gravity is one of those forces – gravity slowly pulls its orbit downward until it crashes.

“Thrust” is another force. If the engines fire long and hard enough, it will attain “escape velocity” and break away from its orbit.

Do Something Different – Get Different Results

Here’s the application to your business. We are often going around in circles in our marketing. We are doing the same things over and over again, getting the same results… the same poor results. And just as objects in motion resist change, so we resist change in our business.

But to get different results, we must change. We must apply “thrust” consistently and at a level sufficiently different from what we have been doing if we are going to attain “escape velocity” and break out of our marketing rut.

Here are some “thrusters” you can use. If you fire them consistently, they will change your business.

Marketing Plan – You know the old saying: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. It is definitely true in marketing. You’ve got to map out your strategy for 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year – and then stick to it. Decide what you are going to do, and then schedule it on your calendar.

Creation Plan – Now that you have all those activities on your calendar, you are going to need to create things. Content, sales copy, presentations, handouts… Decide what you need to accomplish and schedule time on your calendar to do it. I recently bought one of those laminated one year on one page calendars. It is really helping me visualize my planned activities so that I don’t overbook myself.

Promotion Plan – You’ve got to get the word out! Plan your promotional activities and get them on the calendar. Holding a Group starting in three months? Which editions of the newsletter will you advertise in? Get it scheduled.

Accountability Plan – You can’t do this on your own. You’re a coach; you know that! Find an accountability partner and schedule your meetings.

Market, Create, Promote, and be Accountable, and you WILL break out of your non-productive orbit.
