True Prayer Story

by | 0 comments

All entrepreneurs start out starry-eyed and awestruck by life’s potential and possibilities, wondering “what if…”

What if I owned my own business? What if there were no more Monday mornings or late-night meetings? No more unreasonable bosses and unrealistic deadlines. No more time clocks, sweat shops, and paychecks barely worth cashing.

Instead, what if…

What If…

I worked for myself? Experienced the freedom, did what I loved, earned what I was worth, and truly made a measurable difference in the world?

The Dream

The “what ifs” are every entrepreneurs dream. A dream that can turn into a nightmare… And no, I’m not talking about things not working out, going back to 9-5 and becoming a dreaded employee.

What if the dream came true, and you still weren’t happy? What if success found you as miserable as the struggle? What if the happiness, the joy, the meaning had all been a mirage?

The Nightmare

Let’s return to our story of David Green of Hobby Lobby, because that’s what happened to him. In the 1990’s, David was living the dream. His company and his family were everything he’d ever wanted them to be.

And it was wearing him out.

He worried all day. Tossed and turned all night. The pressures of maintaining success proved to be as great or greater than the pressures in the struggle.

The Reality

Then one night, under the vast Oklahoma sky, he realized this,

“I sensed immediately that my worry about Hobby Lobby was largely because there was too much human effort attempting to steady the ark of the company… If we kept getting in his (God’s) way, if we kept relying on human strengths and thinking, what kind of trouble awaited us? I went back in the house and took out a piece of paper. I wrote the following

“I own Hobby Lobby. Signed, God.””

God owns it all.

You, me, the whole earth, and certainly, he owns these businesses that He has tasked us to build. Thus, the most important relationship in our lives here on this earth and in eternity is our relationship with God, the CEO of Everything.

Last week, we began our 31-Day Prayer Challenge by praying for ourselves, the entrepreneur, the human face all our clients and customers see.

It’s Not Too Late To Join

For the next six days the prayer challenge will focus on our relationship with God, our CEO, and the one who owns everything including you and me. When our relationship is right with Him, all is right in our hearts and our worlds.

Need Grace?

Have you noticed that some days you wake up and immediately remember to start the day with prayer and on other days (maybe most days) it’s the furthest thing from your mind?

Take heart and give yourself grace. Praying consistently is a habit, and that means like any new habit, it must be built.

There will be days when you hit it out of the ballpark and days when you completely forget. Remember, we are TRAINING not TRYING. There is no failure, only learning.

This challenge is 100% grace-infused. If you forget to pray for one day or for twenty-one days, just pick up the next prayer card, the number at the top corresponds to the day of the month, and begin again. It’s that simple! Building consistency is all about grace, my friends, it’s all grace.
