I hate to admit it, but I’m always looking for an easier way to do… well, to do almost everything. An easier way to get my chores done, empty my endless email box and to reflect the flawless character of Christ.
I’m sure you see the problem with my plan. I may be able to find new tech tools to help me with my first two goals – chores and email, but a Christ-like character only comes through faith and times of testing that cause me to lean deeply on my God.
In other words, a smooth sea never made a skilled mariner.
While we may wish that God would miraculously fill our coaching practices with a never-ending stream of eager clients, that might build our businesses but it wouldn’t build us.
You may be experiencing some setbacks, difficulties, or delays in executing your marketing plans this week. Me, too.
The good news is that the same God who led us into this field will continue to provide for us every step of the way. I’m hope you’ll join me today as I turn to Him to do what only He can do, and in faith, continue to market as best I can.
Take a minute to share below what God is teaching you. It will encourage all of us.
Welcome to all the new coaches who are just jumping in today! We are so glad you are here.

Today I subscribed to grammar girl.
Terrific, Marsha. I hope you’ll find it a fun way to brush up on those pesky grammar rules we learned so long ago.

Today I selected some key verses to encourage me in my coaching practice – Colossians 1:28-29: “He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.” I’m so grateful that I don’t have to depend on my personal strength to accomplish what God has prepared for me to do. His strength is sufficient.
I LOVE that verse, Gwen. Thanks for sharing it today.

Hi Kim,
Hope you’re doing well! Today I worked on the content of my website, based on my niche and pitch. It’s all connected of course!
Hoping to keep the momentum! Your game is certainly helping creating that momentum.
Cheers everyone!
Gaëtane.
Wow – great work, Gaetane. I’m so glad the game is helping. If there’s a way to make marketing fun, I think we should do it. :).

It’s a fun marketing day. I am working on making a video. I shared today’s blog post and had a guest blog post on Kathi Lipp’s site.
Kudos on the guest post, Mary Lou. I read it, and you did a great job.

This morning I read endorsements, the foreword, acknowledgements and introduction to Get Clients Now! – part in preparation for the 6-week course, and part to delve into for today even before the course begins. My blog’s verse is Proverbs 4:23 – “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” It was shared by someone on Christian radio this morning as I was getting ready for the day. A pertinent, close to my heart reminder that in life, relationships, and yes, coaching others – that to be a clear, flowing wellspring means my heart must remain abiding in and drawing my life expression from Christ’s own Life within. Otherwise, my flesh stinketh! Thank you for your post today, Kim.
Thanks for sharing that God is doing in your heart and life, Nancy. God has really been speaking to me about abiding in Him ALL the time as well. I’m so thankful we have a God who likes us, loves us and wants to spend time with us.

Home today with a grandchild who isn’t feeling well–just resting, sleeping on the couch. So I’m getting lots accomplished! Spent the morning going through the evaluations on our group last night and making notes. Added participants names to my list. Organized my work space. Posted a photo from the CAMP last night on my FB page. Then spent some time working on a blog post. Loved having some extra time today!
I’m impressed that you can get any work done with your grandchild around – I’ve not mastered that skill yet :(. How did your CAMP go?
Thank you for asking, Kim. The camps went well. Participants were excited about the experience. These were the first camps and there were many things going into them that I was unsure about but decided I just needed to do it the best I could and then make adjustments. I’m definitely still nailing down the model. Even with my uncertainties, I would call them a success. I was thrilled at the positive response from those who attended these first sessions.
On the grandchild note, I watch 2 of my grandchildren (ages 4 and 2) a couple of days a week and get nothing accomplished unless they are napping:-) This child today is six years old, wasn’t feeling well, and simply wanted to sleep on the sofa. While she slept, I worked!
I’m soooo glad the camps went well. No doubt, you’ll always tweak and adjust as you learn more, but the fact that the participants were thrilled shows it was a resounding success.
Thanks for making me feel better on the grandchildren front. My 1 & 3 years grandkids are living with me right now, and I find they take my full attention when I’m with them :). Of course, I love every minute of it.

Today I promoted the newest blog post in social media and posted a couple of quotes on FB that are garnering a lot of attention and reach for the business FB page. I’m considering this a “win” especially because of all the FB changes to business page reach.
I agree, LeeAnn. FB’s new policies make it hard for our business pages to have the reach we wish they would. It is definitely a win that your post got out to some of your followers.

Today I connected with an acquaintance on FB who was actively looking for a life coach. A mutual friend recommended me and now we have her first session scheduled for this week. The added bonus was the marketing to this person’s FB friends who saw the original life coach request post, saw the recommendation by our mutual friend, and saw the link to my website. These were local people, so these would be in person sessions, my preferred method instead of via online. In our more rural area, an individual recommendation like this is like gold!
Chuck, that is HUGE! I’m so excited for you.

Kim, thanks so much for your good reminder about the role of testing in our lives and our need to rely on God to grow through! I am again reminded of my life message which I picked up from a radio program long ago; “I can’t, but He can, and He’s with me!”
Today I wrote a prospect to encourage him and remind him about coaching and how it can help him in his growing through!
Thanks, Vic. “I can’t but He can” is one of my favorite mantras. So true.

Well, I did my 5 minute marketing both Monday and Tuesday, but didn’t post it here–so I know those points may not count –EXCEPT FOR marketing MY business, so I’m Ok! On Monday, I emailed a pastor at my church about potential referrals. On Tuesday I contacted a colleague about setting up a meeting to discuss my business and potentially working together. Today I have been working on my elevator speech. Whew, feeling good about getting things moving!
Hi Katie,
Good news. You still get one point for each day your marketed whether you post it or not. Today you get an extra point for also posting what you’ve done.
It sounds like you are really moving forward. So happy for you…

I sent a personal FB invite to someone who said they “may” come to my workshop on Saturday. I posted an encouraging photo on FB.
Good for you, Shay. I think those personal invitations really help.

I have had such incredible response to my FB post…very exciting! More people keep adding comments and responding to other people’s posts.
Today I did more research on my niche group of women suffering with auto-immune disorders and the information will give me content for ongoing posts. I never dreamed that I would get such exposure via FB!
Kristie – I’m very excited for you as well. It sounds like what you posted really resonated. FB is a great way to reach a lot of new and different people.

Today I checked my google analytics (and Alexa) info. What I found is that I am losing ground! So…now that I have seen the numbers, I have contacted someone who can help me with my website! I am glad to have the list of ideas of what to do for my business. Thank you!
Hi Cindy – Good for you for learning what’s going on with your website. And even better that you’ve already made steps to turn it around. Awesome.

At an event today, I talked to another person about possible venues. Sounds like the same thing as yesterday which, in a way, it is, but it’s a big deal for me to finally be asking people about stuff like this so 2 days in a row is a win for me.
Good for you for stepping out of your comfort zone two days in a row. Awesome!

God is teaching me that He really does provide, even when I don’t see it. He wants me to be faithful and to work with all the excellence I can muster (in His grace). He takes care of the rest.
For my marketing today, I worked on picking a theme for a purchasing page, finding the right graphics and design to make my offer “pop,” and reached out to several potential referral sources via phone and email.
Really glad to participate in this Marketing Game challenge; helps me focus my time and energy where it needs to be. Thanks for doing this, Kim.
Hi Janet, Thanks for the great reminder about God’s faithfulness!

I ordered new business cards today for a subsidiary consulting business…I am using my same logo which has maroon and green in it…by current coaching cards have a maroon background and these new business cards will have the green background. They will look similar and have the same logo but the two very different colors will make them distinct! I’m excited! Thanks Kim!!
Good idea about matching the colors and logo but still keeping the two businesses distinct. That’s sounds great.

5-Minute Marketing Game: I bookmarked and subscribed to 3 new blogs in my niche. They were the Success Magazine’s blog, The Entrepreneur Magazine’s blog and Darren Hardy’s blog. All of these blogs have interesting ideas which are providing me with a challenge to find the Biblical perspective on the ideas they put forward.
Hi Jim, Those sound like interesting blogs. I’ll bet you’ll learn a lot and no doubt, will have to filter a lot of the advice to line it up with what God says. It should stretch your mind both ways :).

Kim, what a lovely essay on building ourselves and our businesses with Divine support.
Today I accomplished:
Encourageing em/vm/FB/LI = 5
Sent 5 FB Friend Requests, got 3 new Friends
Asked a pleased client for a LI recommendation
Joined a new FB accountability group
Investigating a new venue to guest blog, will likely sign up on Thursday.
Sounds like you are continuing to push forward. Great job. And I love that you asked for the LI recommendation. That social support is so important.

Today I watched a video from Michael Hyatt. What an inspiring individual. I was also on another call (different from yesterday’s) where I told more coaches in training about your 5-minute marketing game.
God surprised me today with a phone call where I was asked to help be a mentor coach for students who are taking a coaching class at a college. I am so excited!
Thank you Kim for your inspiring posts and responses. What a blessing you are!
Jill, that is so cool about being a mentor coach. I know you will be a real blessing to them. (And thanks for inviting others to our game. I hope they join us.)

I listened to Kim’s podcast on Public Speaking and then started the web-based Bite Size Marketing course: The Power of Public Speaking. I have a lot of work to do but I am excited to jump right in. Thanks for the great resources!
You’ll be a terrific public speaker, Rayna. I’m so glad you are moving in that direction.

If rough seas make a skilled mariner, then I’ll make a great one in the near future! This business building has been challenging to say the least, but I am sure am learning a lot in the process–about marketing, entrepreneurship, God and myself–all valuable lessons to learn. And in the process, God is refining and stretching me so that I can be the best coach (and person) possible. Today I connected with a potential client and set up an appt. for a consultation! (This was yesterday’s comment…just realized I didn’t post it.)
So glad you are hanging in there, Kerry. And I’m excited about the potential client and praying that it will be a great match.

Today I am finalizing plans for me to lead a weekend conference for a group of church women in April. Very excited to be doing this. The topic is “The Fabric of Friendships.”
Good for you, Carolyn. That sounds like a wonderful talk.

Oh Kim it is so true. I once had to do hand washing for a week while the money came in for a new washing machine. There was a certain joy and satisfaction in doing manual labor that would normally take 5 minutes.
